What is Advanced Distributed Learning School? Is it accredited?

ADL School is a Government of British Columbia accredited independent school providing free online curriculum to school aged children who are residing in British Columbia. All of course are offered online, with teacher support. We are diploma granting institution, like any other public, private and independent schools in British Columbia.


Can I do fulltime studies with Advanced Distributed Learning School?

Do you issue diplomas or GED?

Yes. We are diploma granting institution, like any other public, private and independent schools in British Columbia.


Are you approved by Government of British Columbia?

Yes. We are approved by Government of British Columbia to operate as a diploma granting independent school.


Are these BC Certified Courses?

Yes, the courses are prepared to meet all of the BC Learning Outcomes as defined by the Ministry of Education


How much do ADL School courses cost?

BC Residents: ADL school courses are FREE to school aged (under 19 years of age) BC residents.
Adult and International Students: Can take course but they must pay applicable course fees.


Do students get actual live teachers?

All of our courses are taught by a British Columbia Certified Instructors certified in their fields. Teachers communicate with students on a regular basis by Skype, email and online office hours.


Do you provide us with a computer?

No. Students wishing to take an ADL School course must have access to their own computer via school library, home, friend’s house, or local library. Review the computer requirements here


Do I need to purchase textbooks?

All course materials are provided online. Should a particular course need any special text or material, we will provide it. Materials are sent to the students, but the parent/guardian is responsible for returning it to back to the school once the course has been completed. Please note student will be responsible for shipping and handling charges.


How do I know what courses to take?

If you are unsure as to which courses you should take, then contact our office, we will be very happy to assist you with your course planning.


How long do I have to complete a course?

You have 12 months from your start date to complete your course.


Can I accelerate and complete faster?

Yes you can!!!


When do courses begin?

We offer asynchronous program. Students can enrol continuously any time of the year.


How many courses am I allowed to take at once?

Fulltime ADL School Students: can take up to 10 courses per year. It is recommended that you take 4 courses at a time.
Cross Enrolled Students: Combined course total for all institutions can not exceed 10 courses per year. Students are not permitted to be enrolled in the same course at two different institutions at the same time.


Do students automatically get an official transcript sent to them?

ADL school reports your official grades directly to the BC Ministry of Education and will inform your school of record (if not ADL School) upon course completion. You can always keep track of your current progress through our website.
What makes a transcript official is when it’s sent sealed and/or directly to the school or entity. They have to be the ones to open it. As soon as the student completes the course and instructors issue a final grade, a document is automatically sent to your official documents file to process. Students can print Unofficial Transcripts via ADL school website. Please note this process can take 5-10 working days from the date you submit your final mark.


How do I enrol in courses at ADL School?

To enrol, please visit our Enrollment page, and fill out the easy-to-use online form. You will receive a confirmation e-mail and you can use online application status to check your application status. You can always call us.

Why do students and parents need to provide accurate email address?

Please make sure the email addresses you have entered during the admissions process is always up to date, as ADL School will send important emails to these address. Student progress reporting will be sent to student and parent via email.


What do I need to sign up?

  • Parent/Guardian legal status in Canada – must attach evidence of one of the following:
    • Canadian citizen
    • Landed immigrant
    • Refugee
    • Student Visa (more than one year)
    • Work Visa (more than one year)
    • Diplomat or consular official
  • Parent’s proof of BC residence - must attach evidence of one of the following:
    • Ownership of dwelling or long-term lease or rental of dwelling
    • Residence of spouse, children and other dependent family members in dwelling
    • Mailing address
    • Telephone listing
    • Driver’s license
    • Employment
    • Registration of automobile, etc.
    • Bank accounts
    • Credit cards
    • Insurance policies
  • Copy of most recent report card
  • Student Care card number
  • Family doctor’s name and contact information
  • Emergency contact name and number
  • If international student, a copy of valid student visa.


How old do I have to be to apply?

No age restriction.


How will Parent/Guardian access student progress report?

You can get your child to login to his or account to show you the most recent progress report.


Is there a timeline for completing course work?

Yes, you must communicate with your teacher on weekly basis and must complete a minimum of 10% of course each month.


How much time does it take to complete a course?

Generally, it takes about 120-125 hours to complete each course.


Where do write the Provincial Exams?

Courses with provincial exams are specifically designed to prepare the student for those exams. ADL School will have exam center where you can write provincial exams. However, students are welcome to arrange in advance to write the provincial exam at their local high school. You should make such arrangements with your local high school at least two month prior to the exam date.


What is Distributed Learning? ?

Distributed Learning (DL) takes place when a student is predominantly at a distance from the teacher, whether the learner is at home or connected to teachers from another learning location. Distributed Learning gives both rural and urban students in British Columbia improved access, more choice, and flexibility to learn outside physical classroom. The goal of DL is to provide a quality, dynamic and engaging learning environment that all students in the province can access.


Are ADL courses the same as a course offered in a neighbourhood schools?

Yes. Our courses can be used to fulfill B.C. Ministry of Education graduation requirements. Students taking our online courses can, and do, graduate from the B.C. school system to go on to take post-secondary degrees at colleges and universities. Post-secondary institutions make no distinction between students that are taking courses in a DL School or “brick and motor” School.


Do you offer courses during the summer?

Yes, students may start their courses at any time, even in the summer.


How often do I have to login and submit assignments? ?

You have the freedom of doing your course any time, any place and any pace within the 12 month period. You must fulfill all conditions outlined in the student learning plan to remain active in the course. Otherwise, you may be deactivated by the teacher. You progress will be reviewed at the end of each month.


I forgot my username and password. How can I recover it?

Click on forget password link below the login button on Student Login Page. Then send us an email containing your full name, date of birth, student number and we will email you your password to email address provided at the time of registration.


How do I login to my account or my courses?

Students, parents/guardians, and staff go to http://www.adlschool.ca to login. Click on Login button on the top right corner. Then click on the relevant link and enter your username and password that were emailed to you.


What if I can't access the ADL School website? Can I still login to my courses?

If for some reason you cannot access www.adlschool.ca , you may still login to your course account at http://bb.etc.bc.ca/webct/entryPageIns.dowebct


Shoul I fill out another application if I am a returning student to ADL School and wishes to take addtional courses.

No, you should just send an email to register@adlschool.ca and in the email indicate following information: 1)ADL School ID 2)date of birth 3)the courses you wish to add.


Do I need to come into ADL school for an orientation, to pick textbooks or to write exams?

No, the course orientation is online. Textbooks will be shipped within 24 hours of enrolling and all course work can be completed from home, including exams.
